Melanie, a licensed clinical professional counselor, helps students with personal growth issues, such as sexual, physical, and emotional abuse; alcohol and drug use and abuse; eating disorders; sexual identity issues; stress management; adjustment to college; dealing with feelings of anxiety and depression; and academic concerns.

Melanie on What You Can Expect From Counseling:

"During the first appointment you will fill out a Basic Information Form, which includes a confidentiality statement and a consent agreement. An opportunity will be provided to ask questions and discuss the purpose of your visit. We will identify one or more areas of focus, prioritize issues, and develop strategies to address your concerns. Many students find they can resolve their issues within one to five sessions. Some students find counseling to be a valuable resource that can help them through a difficult semester. Others like having an ongoing relationship with a counselor over time and return periodically for counseling support throughout their college years."

No fee is charged for the initial appointment. For subsequent visits, students will be charged only a one-time fee of $40 that entitles them to a wide range of services at the CHD until they graduate or leave UMF.
