►UMF Testing Services offers
students the use of PLATO
tutorial software, for a registration fee of $25.00, to prepare for both the computer-based and
paper-and-pencil versions of Praxis I-PPST. PLATO is best used at least
one month prior to the actual test session. You are encouraged to use
PLATO as a diagnostic tool to determine where any skill deficiencies exist
within the Praxis I-PPST.
► What to expect when taking the PLATO simulated test
Each of the simulated tests for math, reading, and writing takes approximately
one hour to complete. Upon completion of the PLATO simulated tests, you will
receive an easy-to-read summary report that provides percentiles of questions
answered correctly. You also will receive a printed copy of your corrected test
to use as a study tool.
► What to do after taking the PLATO simulated test
1. Read and review your summary report
2. Review individual tutorial assignments to find areas of proficiency and deficiency. Take a second version of the
simulated test for comparison.
3. Take your summary report and corrected simulated test to the UMF Math Clinic and/or UMF Writing Center (located in the Franklin Academic Success Center) for individualized skill-building tutorial help.
4. Check out a PPST Study Guide at Testing Services. Take individual tests.
5. Take tests at a glance (free) on-line at www.ets.org/praxis.
6. If you have questions, seek advice from a Testing Services staff member, academic advisor, or peer advisor.
