Making an Appointment at the CHD

Individual Appointment Office Hours
: Students may meet one-on-one with a career counselor for mock interviewing, resume and cover letter critiquing, and questions about graduate school and job applications, and other career-related matters. Individual appointments are available to students on the hour, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (The last appointment hour of the day is from 3 to 4 p.m.) CHD staff will be available on a limited basis to students during February and April vacation weeks.)

Scheduling Career-Related Appointments: Call (don’t e-mail) the CHD at 207-778-7034 and ask to be scheduled with an available career counselor.

Subscription Fee: A student's first appointment at the CHD is free; thereafter, a one-time, non-refundable fee of $25 is required to attend individual career or personal-growth appointments. Subscribed students (those who pay the one-time $25 fee) are entitled to career and personal-growth counseling appointments at the CHD for up to six months after graduation. If you have already paid the subscription fee for appointments/services made earlier in your UMF career, you need not pay again. The $25 subscription fee may be paid by cash, check, credit card, or applied to a student’s bill. Students may attend any career fair free of charge.

Resume/Cover Letter Critiquing: Half-hour individual appointments to critique draft resumes and cover letters are available to students at various times during normal business hours while school is in session. Students must bring a word-processed copy of their draft for critiquing. Prior sign up and payment of the subscription fee is required. Stop by or call the CHD at 207-778-7034 to sign up.

Scheduling Personal Counseling Appointments: Call the CHD at 207-778-7034, and ask to be scheduled with a personal counselor if you are experiencing a variety of mental health issues (e.g., if you feel diminished by stress, depression, anxiety, an eating disorder, low self-esteem, or if you have difficulty managing your anger and frustration).

E-mail Policy: No critiquing of resumes, cover letters, or graduate school application essays will be done via e-mail.
