1. Talk with upperclassmen within a major. They can give you insights into the courses you will take and professors who will instruct you. Just remember, their reasons for liking a major may be different from your own.

2. Talk with faculty in a major. Ask about their career path. Many of them have taken interesting journeys in their field.  Attend one of the classes they teach, it may clarify aspects of the major and the career paths associated with it.

3. Read your online catalog. (Go to Academic Services after you log-on to eCampus. Pay close attention to the course descriptions. Mark the courses that sound interesting to you.

4. Talk with a career counselor at the Center for Human Development to assess where you are in the career exploration process. The counselor might help you arrange some informational interviews with alumni or someone working in your field of interest.

5. Get involved in UMF clubs and organizations related to the major. Attend events sponsored by the organization.

6. Utilize online resources such as Career Key (password = 44W5) or written inventories like the Self-Directed Search (available at CHD) to assess your interests. Map your major to UMF degree offerings.

8. Research career possibilities associated with different majors. Check out Careers Associated With Majors.
