Learning Assistance Center Tutoring
The Learning Assistance Center
provides tutoring, at no charge, for virtually any UMF course. Tutors
are recommended by faculty and meet with students individually or in
small groups to provide extra help in coursework. Requesting a tutor
simply involves visiting the Learning Assistance Center office on the
fourth floor of Merrill Hall.

The Writing Center
The
Writing Center helps all writers (faculty, staff,
and students) improve their writing. At any stage of writing, from
brainstorming and choosing a topic to revising a final draft and proof
reading, tutors can offer strategies and techniques to help a frustrated
writer. Writing Center staff are trained to be sympathetic readers, able
to point out strengths and weaknesses, able to see patterns of error,
and able to suggest possible development. If you want some help with
your writing, you can make an appointment by calling 778-7187. If you want to work with a specific tutor, you
can check the schedule and stop by when that person is working.
Generally, the tutor will ask to see the assignment and then will ask
the writer to read out loud what’s been written so far. The tutor may
also ask you what specific help you want. After the reading, the tutor
will ask questions, point out strengths and weaknesses, and make
suggestions.

The Math Clinic
Since 1986, the Math
Clinic has provided more than 18,000
hours of free tutoring to more than 2,200 UMF students enrolled in math
or math-related courses on campus. Math Clinic tutors are UMF students
who have earned an A or B in one or more UMF math courses. More than half the
tutors are education majors and are as interested in teaching as they
are in mathematics. The staff truly cares about each client’s success,
as well as providing a sincere, friendly and supportive atmosphere for
learning and succeeding in math. Math Clinic tutors are available to
assist you with math class homework assignments as well as quiz and test
preparation. Contact the Learning Assistance Center on the fourth floor
of Merrill Hall to engage the services of the Math Clinic staff.
Disability Services
The University of Maine at
Farmington is committed to providing both access and accommodations to
students with disabilities. UMF provides academic and support services
necessary to ensure that students with disabilities have both the
physical and programmatic access they need to enjoy a full campus life.
Individuals have the right - and the responsibility - to decide whether
they want to take advantage of the services available to them. Any UMF
student with a physical, hearing, visual, medical, emotional, or
learning disability is eligible for services. When a disability is not
otherwise apparent, documentation may be required. Documentation should
be current and include a description of the disability,
disability-related needs, and specific recommendations for services.
This information is confidential, is not part of the student's permanent
record, and will be released only upon express written request of the
individual. Learn more about
