Resume Assignment: Required for New Student Orientation, Fall 2008

Please prepare a resume (two-page maximum), detailing your skills as well as work and educational experiences. There are three reasons for completing the resume assignment: 1) Your resume is an excellent way to introduce yourself to your academic advisor so he/she can learn more about you. 2) Resumes are required to find a part-time, on- or off-campus job at the Student Employment Fair.  3) A resume likely will be required for the kind of on- or off-campus jobs you'll seek now that you're in college, including summer employment and internships.

  • Optimal Resume: The Career Services Office has provided you with a free resume- building tool.  All you need to access this great service is your UMF e-mail address.

  • Optimal Resume is an extremely user friendly system that will help you create a great Microsoft Word resume and Flash resume website quickly and easily.  The system is also quite flexible.  It's fast, easy and all of the tools are provided to include spell checking, formatting and LOTS of examples and help.  Best of all you can store your resume online and never worry about losing it.  Just think how convenient it will be to create your resume now and be able to add to it throughout your college career!
  • Be advised that resumes constructed with the resume-building feature of a word-processing program are notoriously hard to update with new information. (They don't take kindly to cutting and pasting.) Resumes are fluid documents that change over time. You'll save yourself time and effort in the long run if you simply build your resume using Optimal Resume.
