Greetings and welcome to UMF’s Center for Human Development (CHD) website.  Our Center’s mission is to support and enhance student learning by providing opportunities for academic, personal, career, and professional development.  Our staff offers a variety of programs and services for UMF students and staff. 

Advising Services
The CHD offers programs for first-year students, including assistance with adjustment issues and academic advising.  The CHD is the official ‘home’ for all liberal arts undecided students and also provides a group of Peer Advisors to assist all UMF students.

Personal Growth and Counseling Services
Personal counselors provide experienced, professional counseling in a confidential setting to help students address issues that can interfere with academic life.

Career Services and Testing
Career counselors offer students one-on-one counseling services regarding career and academic issues.  They also offer on-going workshops and information for graduate school planning, how to work a job fair, internships, resume and cover letter writing, and interviewing skills.  The CHD is also a testing site for Praxis I and II, MAT, CLEP, CHES, TOEFL, and PLATO (Praxis Simulation Test) exams.  Our Career Resource Library houses study guides (Praxis, MAT, GRE, and others), graduate school and internship information, and job listings.  Library materials can be checked out for 2 weeks free of charge.

The Center for Human Development is located at 252 Main Street on the University of Maine at Farmington campus.  Our hours of operation are 8:00-4:30 Monday through Friday (hours may vary during breaks and during the summer).  Please call (207) 778-7034 or stop by the office to schedule an appointment with one of our counselors.
