Field Work and Experience (6-15 credits)
Exposure to practical problems relating to the student’s academic major. The internship experience may
include work for a social or governmental agency or for business or industry. Proposals
should be developed in consultation with a faculty member and submitted in
writing to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for approval by the
Arts and Sciences Committee prior to registration. At the conclusion of the
work period, the student submits a comprehensive report on the experience to
the supervising faculty member. Available only to students in
liberal arts. No student is allowed to take more than fifteen credits in
LIA 396. Credits will be allowed on the
basis of 32 work hours for each credit. Pass/Fail only. Prerequisites: approval of the instructor and
the Arts and Sciences Committee.

short statement of the study that you wish to undertake or problem(s) which you
will address and (if appropriate) its relevance to your major. If you are seeking approval for Field Work
Experience, a letter from your outside supervisor or employer, clearly stating
the number of contact hours to be worked, must be included with your
application. The letter may be attached to your application or faxed to Bonnie
Frost at 778-7278. See next page for the relationship between the number of
hours worked and the number of credits granted.
